The Clothes Hound Hub

A Front for Resistance The Used Clothing Store Melanie and Neil run The Clothes Hound as a cover for their Mayday activities. They use the store to receive and pass messages via microdots. The Pearl Girls' brochures are the perfect courier. Melanie even donates clothes to SanctuCare, another refugee organization. The Meetings Neil and Melanie host meetings at their house, discussing escape routes and intelligence. They are careful not to involve their daughter Daisy. But after the protest march, Daisy's face is on TV, and the Gilead agents identify them. The Betrayal A Gilead informant inside Mayday or SanctuCare tips off the Eyes. The store is burgled, and a microdot camera is stolen. Neil and Melanie are killed by a car bomb. The network is severely damaged, but not destroyed.

The Safe House at Carnarvon

A Temporary Haven The Quaker Meeting House Ada takes Nicole to a SanctuCare shelter and then to a safe house called Carnarvon. The building is a run-down mansion with a faded sign. Inside, it is clean and furnished. Nicole is given food and a place to sleep. The Network of Helpers Elijah and Ada are key Mayday operatives. They have contacts in the Quaker community, the Canadian government, and even among the street people. George, the old man from the store, is also a watcher. The network is tight but vulnerable. The Decision to Go Elijah and Ada explain that the source in Gilead has asked for Baby Nicole personally. They cannot force her, but they argue that it is the only way to get the documents that will expose Gilead's crimes. Nicole agrees, partly out of guilt and partly out of a desire for revenge.

The Carpitz Operations

A Hidden Base The Flying Carpet Logo Carpitz is a wholesale carpet outlet that serves as a Mayday safe house. Behind the showroom, there are cubicles, computers, and a sofa. Nicole stays there while training. The place is run by Elijah and a small team. The News Nicole watches the news about the bombing. The Canadian government is investigating, but Gilead denies involvement. The Pearl Girls are back in the news with the death of Aunt Adrianna. Nicole feels the pressure of the hunt. The Plan to Infiltrate Elijah explains that the source has a new plan: Nicole will be a street person and then a convert. The source has demanded a specific tattoo. Ada arranges for the tattoo artist to scarify the GOD/LOVE design. Nicole is terrified but resolute.
